🧭EXPLORE SOUTHERN UTAH
Utah may not be the first place that comes to mind when thinking about towering redwood trees. However, hidden away right here in Southern Utah you can discover a unique and awe-inspiring natural wonder.
This tree is not indigenous to this region; it was introduced as a sapling in 1933-34 by Dr. Walter P. Cottam as part of the Browse Experiment Station. During the 1950s, Heber Jones resided at the Cottam home for a year, during which Dr. Cottam shared that he had planted several Sequoia trees on both sides of Pine Valley Mountain in the 1930s. The lone surviving tree from this planting venture was identified near the cabin in the Browse area of the mountain.
If you like to explore and looking for an afternoon adventure – we suggest you go for the hunt and see if you can find our only giant Redwood Tree in Utah (technically a Sequoia). Just take the Browse exit off I15 and head west. It’s a ways back there but eventually, you will stumble upon the old ranger station.
*ATV or 4WD required and I would suggest a SxS or ATV for this one, the road gets rough.
After you have found the tree, head on over to IG or FB and share your comments and photos!
