Ours is lahrs.with.latitude, and together we had a great day experiencing The Narrows and we would recommend it to anyone (maybe a few times over).

How to hike The Narrows:
Rating: Hard, 8.9 miles total
You do not need a permit to hike from the bottom up. You simply walk into the river from the end of the Riverside Walk.
When to go: Springtime will often have trail closure due to high river flow from Snowmelt. This leaves summer and fall better times for planning a trip to Zion if you want to experience The Narrows.
How to avoid crowds: The further you hike, the fewer people. But also hiking in the fall will help reduce crowds drastically.
Rent gear. Adults and big kids should have a minimum of boots, neoprene socks, and trekking poles to prevent falls and ankles twisting. The adults also had pantsuits because it was November. Little kids wear full dry suits unless it is summer. The water is cold!
Wear hats, coats, and gloves if it isn’t summertime. The canyon is colder than it is in Springdale and the sun isn’t shining down into the canyon much.
Bring extra dry clothes, gloves, jackets, and socks in a dry bag backpack (especially if you skip dry suits)…our kids complained the most of cold hands which wouldn’t have been helped by a dry suit. We kept changing out dry socks on our hands and that helped a ton.
Bring a toddler carrier for the littles. This hike is doable for all ages if the water is running low. On our first trip, our five-year-old hiked to Wall Street and needed to be carried back. It will be up to your kid and how far they can go.
Snacks and water! You can fill water bottles at the shuttle stop. There are river banks to stop for a snack.
This hike can be as long or short as you want, but we highly recommend you hike into Wall Street a bit where it’s most beautiful and narrow. Watch the time and be sure to leave enough time to get back so you don’t miss the last shuttle. Time yourself on the way in to know how long it will take you to get back. Give yourself an extra 30 to account for any extra breaks. You don’t want to have to hike in the dark for 8 miles back to the visitor center where your car is parked!
Respecting and Preserving Nature:
Practice responsible exploration by respecting our land. Pack out what you pack in (don’t leave garbage!). Stick to the trails and only take photos and memories home with you.
Remember to always pack water with you!
