Ready to shake off the old and start the new year fresh? Grab a friend and come jump into the water together… or, grab a frenemy and tell them to jump in the lake!
What better way to shake off the old year than jumping into the brisk waters of Quail Creek Reservoir?
Dress up in your favorite costume to be entered in for a prize. Bring a friend, the kind of friend that will hold your hand and not let go to make sure you don’t chicken out. The fact is that we don’t have to carve through three feet of ice to get to the water, but IT. IS. COLD. We live in a desert, where overnight winter temperatures can get into the low teens, and a breeze off of the mountain will have you reconsidering your choice of activities for the morning. Water temperatures typically range from 42˚-48˚, enough to spike your heart rate and freeze your (mega)bits! Deep breaths, take the plunge, make a memory! We will have support staff on hand to render assistance, if needed.
This is all for a good cause.
We are coming together to raise money for the Washington County Children’s Justice Center. The Justice Center describes their function as follows:
“Before there were Children’s Justice Centers (called Children’s Advocacy Centers, or CACs in other parts of the country), investigation of child abuse required multiple interviews of the child victim by the police, social services, medical personnel, mental health professionals and attorneys. Each interview occurred at a different place and rarely in a setting that was familiar or comfortable for the child. Now, the Children’s Justice Center provides a homelike environment where a single interview is conducted by a trained child forensic interviewer, and all of the professionals then work together to provide the best-possible outcome for the child and family.”
Donations will be accepted at the event. You can also donate online at https://cjcwc.com/donate/ . Everyone that contributes can show their donation receipt for a door prize drawing ticket.
